Recycle Your Blog Content for Even More Publicity
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my monthly blog updates by email. As a thank-you gift, I'll send you my free special report, Your Author Website: 21 Content Ideas for Profit and Publicity. Thanks for visiting!
Recently, reader Jane Beman asked my opinion about recycling blog posts. Actually, I think this is a great idea. It’s a big timesaver and also gets your message out to a wider audience.
I’ve taken material from my blog posts and reposted on my Amazon plog and on others’ blogs. I’ve also expanded blog posts into articles and created blog posts from sections of articles. Also consider converting blog posts into ezine tips and discussion group postings.
The only caveat is to be wary of recycling when someone expects original material (for example, you’re being paid to blog or write an article). Otherwise, get creative and start thinking of new ways to reposition your existing content.
Capitalize on Online Video Viewing Trends
Industry analyst eMarketer has released some new statistics that indicate online video viewing will nearly double in the US by 2011. What’s the best way to capitalize on this trend? Use video to promote your book. In addition to creating a trailer-style video for your book, also consider other creative uses of video:
- Offer a video welcome to your website or blog
- Post videos of your author appearances or interviews
- Create short how-to videos related to the topic of your book

Seven Things …
Reader Maria Peagler recently tagged me to post a list of seven things people may not know about me (see Maria’s list on her blog). Here are seven facts, fascinating or not…
- I started promoting my books online more than ten years ago, back in the dark ages of online promotion. I’d estimate that 90 percent of my writing success has developed from online sources.
- I wrote my first “book” at age seven. Actually, it was an illustrated 20-page story that my mom photocopied so that I could sell it to the family. Little did I know that it would be many more years before I published my first “real” book.
- I’m a CeM-certified online marketing specialist. The Certified eMarketer designation requires a minimum of three years of professional experience in online marketing plus completion of a certification exam.
- I grew up in a very tech-savvy family. My dad always had to have the latest tech gadget and my cousin was one of the first to own a personal computer. My mom saw the wisdom of buying “one of those computer things” for my future education and I’ve been an early adopter of the latest software and technologies ever since.
- I love travelling, particularly back to Europe where I lived briefly as a teenager. My experiences there led me to pursue a career as a translator/interpreter, but I soon returned to my original passion: writing.
- I enjoy using my writing skills for pro bono work. I’ve taken on projects for the March of Dimes, Sister Cities, and United Nations Volunteers, writing grant proposals, designing cookbooks and brochures, interpreting for foreign delegations, and coordinating sporting events.
- I love to cook. My favorites are Mediterranean and Asian dishes, but I love to try all sorts of ethnic cuisines. Fortuntately, I live in an area full of enough ethnic eateries and gourmet restaurants to provide plenty of inspiration.
